Data Privacy Day

Bharati Vidyapeeth’s Institute of Computer Applications and Management (BVICAM), New Delhi, in association with Deloitte LLP Group, conducted a workshop and technical panel discussion on Data Privacy on 28th January, 2019 on account of ‘Data Privacy Day’.

The event started with an opening key note by Mr. Manish Sehgal, alum of BVICAM and presently, Partner with the Risk Advisory practice at Deloitte, India. He briefed the audience about Data Privacy- the concept which requires both personal and professional awareness, potential of data privacy to shape India’s economic future. He discussed about NASSCOMM surveyof 2015 which emphasizes on deprived data privacy laws of India. Furthermore, he spoke about the “adequacy agreement” that imparts free data trade amongst the signing countries and how its lack is a cause of concern for Indian economy.

Mr. Kartikey Raman, Manager, Risk Advisory, Deloitte talked about Evolution of privacy, Personal information, Generally Accepted Privacy Principles, Privacy Legislation around world, Evolution of privacy in India, Draft of personal data protection Bill, 2018.

Multiple case studies were also discussed during the workshop such as Uber’s God’s eye, Facebook’s 10 year challenge and Aadhar act which deals with usage of Aadhar. Elaborate interactive discussion was held related to GDPR which deals with strict definition of privacy of citizens and how Silicon Valley having the largest number of startups is capable of imparting strictest data privacy laws.

Post the workshop, a panel discussion was also conducted and the panelists were the composition of delegates Mr. Manish Sehgal and Mr. Kartikey Raman, faculties of BVICAM Dr. Vishal Jain and Dr. Ritika Wason along with the student representatives Ms. Natasha Malik and Mr. Karan Joshi. The panelist discussed on how Data privacy should be incorporated as a field in current academia infrastructure so as to stand up to the bench marks of global market place, do’s and don’ts of cyber world, required skill set of data privacy professionals and how as an individual we can cause a change in light of data privacy and its awareness.

After the enlightening talk, both the delegates were felicitated with mementos as a vote of thanks by the eminent faculties of BVICAM.  At the end, the session concluded with the group photograph session of the delegates of Deloitte LLP Group and hosting & coordinating team of BVICAM.
