INDIACom 2018

The 12th edition of INDIACom i.e. INDIACom - 2018, 5thInternational Conference on “Computing for Sustainable Global Development” was hosted by Bharati Vidyapeeth Institute of Computer Applications and Management (BVICAM), New Delhi during 14th – 16th  March, 2018. The event was executed in association with IEEE (USA) Delhi Section and was supported by CSI Region – I and Divisions – I, II, III, IV & V,  IETE Delhi Centre, IET (UK) Delhi Local Networks, ISTE Delhi Section, GGSIPU, New Delhi, AICTE, CSIR India, Shri JagadishPrasad Jhabarmal Tibrewala University, Rajasthanand Dept. of Science and Technology, Ministry of Technology, Govt. of India.

The event started on the evening of 14th March 2018 by paying tribute to a veteran leader Late Dr. Patangrao Kadam Ji, Founder, Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune and Chancellor Bharati Vidyapeeth University, who passed away on 9th March 2018, at the age of 74. The audience went through the life journey of this great soul through a video and gave a sign of respect by keeping two minutes silence.  

Prof. M. N. Hoda, Director, BVICAM, New Delhi & General Chair,  INDIACom-2018 acknowledged the sad demise of Dr. Patangrao Ji and showed his feelings of respect towards him and the entire family of Bharati Vidyapeeth. Continuing with his words, he briefed the audience about the history of 12 editions of INDIACom, since its inception in the year 2007 and presented a brief report of INDIACom - 2018.  He shared statistics of the conference where around 3300 papers were submitted, out of which 1040 papers were accepted for publication in IEEExplore. Prof. A. K. Nayak, National Hony. Secretary, CSI, welcomed all honorable guests and discussed with the audience about four industrial revolutions and how sustainable computing applications can turn around the fate of the country at a much faster pace. Prof. Mohammad Yamin, Dept. of Management Information System, Faculty of Economics and Administration, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, was the Guest of Honour. He is also the convener of the 4thInternational workshop on Information Engineering and Management (IWIEM 2018), being organized by him along with the INDIACom-2018, under Track # 05, having participants and authors from different countries. During his key note address, he gave homage to Late Dr. Patangrao Kadam. Then continuing with his talk, he discussed the conservation of vital resources, about the huge wastage of food, water and energy across the world using statistics of USA. The Inaugural Session was presided over by Prof. K. K. Aggarwal, Noted Academician and Founder Vice Chancellor, GGSIP University, New Delhi, Past President, Fellow and Life Time Achievement Awardee of CSI, expressed his appreciation to see the event growing immensely over the years. He shared his views on the importance of computing in a students’ life and that the education system should be open to accept students’ alternatives of solutions to encourage logical thinking and nurturing innovations & creativity. He also expressed his concern on how the focus is always laid upon the finances involved in the introduced innovation related projects rather than analyzing their cost benefits and savings, in long run.

Shri Sanjay Mohapatra, Vice President, CSI. Also gave tribute to late Dr. Patangrao Kadam Ji. He talked about finding effective ways to achieve sustainable development and how INDIACom is serving as a global platform for researchers. Dr. Javier Poncela, University of Malaga, Spain shared his views on sustainable computing and discussed about the new technology of cryptocurrency- BlockChain. Prof. Milos Stojmenovic, Department of Computer Science, and Electrical Engineering at Singidunum University. Belgrade, Serbia, talked about the approaches to have sustainable development and how money is being a major concern. 

 Prof. K.T. V. Reddy, President  IETE, talked about the latest technologies in world and also informed everyone about IETE International conferences and excellence awards which are awarded by IETE to academicians and industry people. Shri R. K. Vyas, National Hony. Treasurer, CSI, acknowledged the presence of all the dignitaries and talked about how CSI has been associated with INDIACom since its inception and is open to honest feedback for further improvement. Prof. A. K. Saini, Professor, GGSIP University, New Delhi, has applauded the success of the INDIACom team year after year, in past eleven years.

Among other dignitaries, were present Dr. Mohd. Alsaig, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah and Dr. Yaseer Ades, Greenwich University, London. All appreciated the huge success of the event. The amount and quality of shared ideas and life stories kept the audience hooked and inspired at the same time.

The 22nd issue of BVICAM’s International Journal of Information Technology (BIJIT), now renamed as International Journal of Information Technology [An official journal of Bharathi Vidyapeeth’s Institute of Information Technology and Management (BVICAM)] was released on the occasion. IJIT is now published by Springer (The world’s largest publisher of scientific documents) w.e.f. Volume 09-Issue 01 from January, 2017 under ISSN: 2511- 2104 (Print Version); ISSN: 2511-2112 (Electronic Version). The pre-conference hard copy as well as soft copy proceedings for INDIACom-2018; were also released by the dignitaries during the inaugural session. The website for INDIACom-2018 also got released at http://bvicam.ac.in/indiacom.

After the enlightening talk, all delegates in attendance were felicitated with mementos and shawls.  At the end, Mrs. Tanya Pathak Garg, Assistant Professor, BVICAM, presented the vote of thanks.

INDIACom – 2018; the 12th edition of this annual conference, attracted over 3300 papers, by 5000 authors across 22 countries. After a series of tough review exercises, in multiple cycles, by a team of over 900 experts; 1040 papers were recommended to be accepted for presentation in INDIACom – 2018 during the three days under nine parallel tracks (four regular tracks and five special sessions). Over 1300 Senior experts / researchers delegates from countries like USA, Australia, Greece, Spain, Malaysia, Canada,  Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, China, UK, Denmark, Romania, Ireland, Taiwan, Bangladesh, Spain, Ghana, Japan, Oman, Afghanistan, etc., and from all the states of India have participated during the three days of the event. A chosen set of 99 papers have been published in the hard copy of the proceedings with ISSN 0973-7529 and ISBN 978-93-80544-29-8 serials. Out of 1040 accepted papers, 919 papers were presented during the three days of the conference, which are published in soft copy of proceedings having ISSN 0973-7529  and ISBN 978-93-80544-28-1. These papers shall be published at IEEE Xplore, the world’s largest repository, indexed with world’s leading Abstracting & Indexing (A&I) databases, including Web of Science, SCOPUS, DBLP, EI-Compendex, INSPEC, etc.

Track # 1 received papers on Sustainable Computing; Track # 2 dealt with High Performance Computing; Track # 3 for High Speed Networking and Information Security; Track # 4 on Software Engineering and Emerging Technologies; Track # 5 was for 3nd International workshop on Information Engineering and Management (IWIEM 2017); Track # 6 was for ICT Based Innovations; Track # 7 was for Next Generation Computing; Track # 8 was for Next Generation Networking; and lastly, Track # 9 was devoted to papers related to Software, Systems and Architecture.

A Panel discussion was organized on the evening of 15th March, 2018 based on the theme “Digital India”; an initiative undertaken by the Government of India, which includes creation of digital infrastructure, delivering services digitally and digital literacy.  The Panel Discusssion was moderated by Mr. V.K. Gupta, Chairman, IET Delhi Local Networks. Other panelists for the session were Justice Talwant Singh, District Judge, Govt. of NCT, New Delhi, Dr. B.K. Murthy, MC&IT, Govt. of India, Prof. Mamta Sharma, Principal, Aditi Mahavidalaya, University of Delhi and Dr. Anup Girdhar, CMD, Sedulity Solutions, New Delhi.

Over 1050 guests from different parts of the country and abroad, including 60 session chairs and invited speakers participated in three days of the conference.  Paper presentations, key note addresses, invited talks showcased the solid research base built by the experts and participants. The skill with which the event was executed, welcomed positive feedback from all visiting dignitaries.
